Fort Pickens Arches
Some of the arches in Fort Pickens by Pensacola, Florida. Fort Pickens is the largest of four forts built to defend Pensacola Bay, Florida, and its navy yard. The fort was begun in 1829 and completed in 1834. This one stayed Union during the civil war. I'd been wanting to go see this fort for a long time and finally got there. I love photographing old forts, especially the arches.
Heron on Island
There is a protected island just inside Perdido Pass in Orange Beach, Alabama that herons nest on. They sit up in the tops of tree, kind of wild to see these big birds nesting.

Worth the 120 Steps
Arcadia Bluffs Overlook known as "Inspiration Point" in Michigan. I didn't count the steps but the Manistee website says there are 120. It was a climb but worth it.
Pride & Strength
The week after 9/11 I remember driving through Marion, Illinois and seeing a flag waving in front of the Farmer's Bank. Man, did it grab me. Then later in the week seeing the Murphyboro's Apple Festival Parade on telvision with flags flying, the bands marching, and the faces of the crowd. America was still there, strong and proud. And I never tire of seeing or photographing our flag.
